THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG

“Rebecca Wahls pilots this cockamamie mishmash with a deft and unerring hand kept firmly on the throttle. The audience is whisked by at top speed, sometimes only catching a gag several lines later and laughing in retrospect, which only adds to the madcap effect of the business. In spite of its pace, Wahls has kept her characters distinctive, and her cast of talented misanthropes rolls fearlessly through the carnage under her guidance. Her impressive resume as listed in the program explains the sure-handed control she demonstrates in holding together and steering this train wreck.”

SPILLS

“Rado’s script is studded with wit. It makes twenty-something, slang-filled chit-chat sound like hella high comedy. Rebecca Wahls’s direction of its every detail is pitch-perfect. And the cast, singly and as an ensemble, are as fun a bunch as could be.”

"Yes, there is magic done at Monumental Theatre’s nifty production of Pippin. I am not overstating my utter enjoyment of this production. It is spunky, buoyant, and engaging from the moment the first notes of “Magic to Do” are played....Director Rebecca Wahls has done some fine casting of the DMV’s twelve member, under 30- years-of-age artists. They are diverse, high-spirited, animated, and talented."
-DC Metro Theater Arts

"Director Rebecca Wahls takes the coming-of-age tale of Pippin and foregoes entirely the cobbled together circus nature that often accompanies the narrative, opting instead for edgy modernity geared toward the millennial focus. This progressive temporal shift draws today’s audience into the story, giving the story a present-day verve to its existence, honing in on the core of the narrative rather than falling victim to the trappings of the spectacle that often accompanies this show. Wahls' vision for how the 21st century youth— like this present day Pippin— connects to the world is spot-on."

WE FOUND THE WILD THINGS

"Reid is interested in relationships – both between friends and with the individual — and his script, though young in places, offers a rich opportunity for this very strong and talented cast, confidently directed by Rebecca Wahls. They have an ease and camaraderie with each other that feels honest and earned."
